Trailworx Australia was engaged by the City of Gold Coast to undertake the reconstruction and remediation of the Old Tambo Track within Upper Coomera Adventure Parklands, bringing the storm-damaged trail back to life and creating a more sustainable, engaging and predictable riding experience.

The works involved the reconstruction of both the lower and upper sections of the trail, with careful consideration given to the surrounding vegetation, terrain and environmental values. Trailworx coordinated works alongside arborists and fauna specialists to allow fallen and unsafe trees to be cleared from the trail corridor while minimising unnecessary disturbance to the surrounding environment.

The lower section required significant redesign and reconstruction to improve trail flow and long-term sustainability. Using a Kubota U17 mini excavator and a specialist Trailworx trail building crew, the existing alignment was carefully reworked to create an approachable Intermediate (Blue) downhill-focused trail. The new alignment encourages single-direction riding and provides riders with a safe, predictable and enjoyable flowing experience. Construction incorporated cut-and-bench techniques suited to the existing terrain, along with natural grade reversals and out-sloping to effectively manage drainage and reduce erosion. Works were contained within the trail corridor wherever possible to minimise vegetation impacts.

Following completion of the lower section, the Trailworx team progressed to the upper loop, reconstructing the trail to provide an Intermediate (Blue) difficulty trail experience. The design makes use of the site’s natural rock features and undulating terrain to create a fun and engaging trail that feels integrated with its surroundings.

Upon completion, Trailworx conducted a final walkthrough with City of Gold Coast and environmental representatives to confirm the works met the intended design and environmental requirements. As-constructed documentation, GPS trail data, before-and-after photography and maintenance recommendations were also provided as part of the project handover.
