Trailworx Australia was engaged by Brisbane City Council to design and construct Carpet Snake, a new adaptive mountain bike trail at Gap Creek Reserve, while also undertaking the complete rebuild of the iconic Death Adder trail. Together, these projects enhance connectivity within the Mt Coot-tha trail network while providing a more inclusive and sustainable riding experience for the wider community.

Carpet Snake was purpose-designed to meet Adaptive Mountain Bike (A-MTB) standards, creating an accessible downhill trail that accommodates riders of varying abilities without compromising on flow or enjoyment. The alignment incorporates smooth transitions, generous berms, progressive rollers and optional jump features, allowing beginners and adaptive riders to confidently navigate the trail while still offering an engaging experience for more experienced riders.

Alongside the new trail, the existing Death Adder alignment was rebuilt to improve drainage, durability and long-term sustainability while preserving the technical character that has made it one of Brisbane’s most popular black-rated descents. Careful trail shaping, erosion management and environmental protection measures ensure the network will continue to perform under heavy use with reduced maintenance requirements.

The completed project delivers a significant upgrade to one of South East Queensland’s premier mountain bike destinations, providing a safer, more inclusive and environmentally responsible trail network that will be enjoyed by riders for many years to come.
